Hey guys,

There is an open wheeling day in Crozet January 6th. I am signed up as well as some guys from my other wheeling club but I figured I would post up here and see if any of y'all want to come. I can't wait to meet at least someone from this club :P . Here's the info:

Open Wheeling in Crozet -- January 6th

IMPORTANT NOTE: If we have more than 10 interested for Sunday wheeling we will open it up. This needs to be done in advance though. Please let me know by e-mail at jeepnchris@xjsrule.com

Please remember that we are CLOSED and NOT open to the public at all other time unless you made plans with Chris or Heather. Thank you.

When is the event?

January 5th setup camp anytime after 4:00PM
Saturday, January 6th 8:30 AM wheeling - if interested in Sunday pls let me know ASAP
Depart by 5:00PM January 6th or earlier.

Where is the event?

The event will be held in Crozet, VA. Please check http://forums.xjsrule.com/viewtopic.php?t=119 for directions. For any
questions regarding the event, please contact Chris Packard at jeepnchris@xjsrule.com.

What is the event?

We will have guided wheeling of all level trails and a large bonfire each night. Primitive on-site camping is available. If desired/needed, we will separate tenting areas for noise control.

Who can participate?

Members of clubs or individuals with no club affiliation are welcome. This event is limited to the first 40 rigs that sign-up via e-mail to jeepnchris@xjsrule.com. Participants are being asked to pre-register via e-mail for this event to confirm a space.

What types of trails will be wheeled?

We will have guides available for all levels of trails (blues - stock to some mods; blacks - 33's or larger, at least one locker, etc.; reds - if you have to ask...). Participants will choose trail levels on a daily basis (i.e. can run blues one day, blacks the next, and vice versa).

What is the cost for the event?

$25/day per vehicle (no passenger fee), $40/2-day weekend per vehicle
(no passenger fee).

NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOL ALLOWED during the trail rides. You may drink after you are done wheeling. Alcohol is allowed in the campsites.

Chris

Make sure you email Chris to let him know you're going and please post up here if you're going as well. We will probably have a mini convoy going out of Richmond. Also, for those that have been there before (I haven't) any tips on what to run?

Thanks!

-Anthony

EDIT - Here is the meet info:

Ok folks, here is the deal:

We will be meeting up at the rest area at mile marker 168 on 64 West (this is west of both 295 and 288). We will meet there between 6:45 and 6:55 AM and leave the rest area at 7 AM sharp. This should put us at the staging area about 8:15 as long as we can maintain about 70 mph up 64 (if anyone can't let me know and we can either back up the departure time or meet you at the staging area). Wheeling starts at 8:30 so this should give us enough time to air down and such. Make sure you are gassed up and ready to go before you get to the rest stop.

I will be on CB channel 4 and my cell number is 804 357 1849.

Remember to bring $25, a lunch, spares if you have them, tools, and recovery equipment.

PLEASE POST UP HERE IF YOU ARE MEETING US AT THE REST STOP! I will make up a list of who all should be there. We will leave at 7 regardless so if you miss us give me a call.

Thanks,

Anthony

Ahh, some incentive to get my junk fixed before then. If I can get some stuff worked out I would like to go.

Ted, get your junk finished and we can break it in down there.

Also, for those that have been there before (I haven't) any tips on what to run?
With 31"s and a locker you can easliy run the blue/easier trails. A bunch of stock Jeeps ran them when I was there. But with IFS, small tires, and lots of sheet metal you'd have a hard time running the harder stuff. I ran blacks when I was there last year, but I had dual cases, and no worries about dents.

Here is my junk, and a Heep, going through "Body Shop"

There's some gnarly stuff there:

Here's a link to more pics that I guy in my group shot, starting in the middle of page 8 and going through page 11:

Yeah, I'm not too worried about body damage, I just don't want to get into too many rollover risk scenarios since the runner is currently my DD. Looks like I will be running blues I guess as those blacks look pretty gnarly. That's a shame because a buddy of mine is gonna run his Xterra on the blacks and try to break the IFS because he's gonna SAS it like a week after that. I'll have to make sure he has a photographer :P .

Thanks man.

The place is pretty small, so you'll be able to watch some rigs running the harder stuff and decide if you want to give it a shot or not. I still had IFS and just 32"s when I was there, and really my biggest limiting factor was an open front diff.

Sweet! I'll probably be on mid-upper blues as well. I've had a couple guys back out in my other club to go to Rousch (sp?) Creek that day. Glad to see more people wanting to go here.

amagrahm, are the ones that your Xterra club had pics of upper blues with black bypasses? I saw the thread on the VAXC forum. They look plenty fun. I'll gladly run those trails. Crozet is close enough that I won't feel like I have to tear up my truck the first time out. and it seems like they have open wheeling every month.

amgraham
12-15-2006, 06:09 AM
Yeah, that was the upper blues. They have all levels of trails from what I hear so I'm sure you'll have a good time regardless. If you read that thread I'm sure you saw that if someone didn't want to keep doing that trail they could get out (like that dude that screwed up the bed on his new Frontier 8O ). I am really looking forward to it!

You have to email Chris to find out. Last I heard there was. Let me know if he says they are full and I will do some checking as I know of a few people who signed up but will not be able to go now and they were supposed to tell him but may not have.

I will post up meet info and such in the next couple days. Really looking forward to it!

Your rig has an e-locker in the rear, right? If so you'll be fine.

Of course there's always a chance of body damage.

haha yeah there is always a chance of that, i imagine the blue trails arent too difficult i could prolly get through without body damage hopefully, i have some bolt on sliders i would try to get on the truck before the trip they just aint been painted yet  so i might try and slap them on there and see if i can make the trip, haha and i need to pick a strap or two(i broke my last two wheelin with some friends two weeks ago)

Dude, on the way home from my buddys house at midnight, my exhaust started making weird sounds. It sounded like the cat, so I cut out the cat and it looked fine. sleeved a straight pipe back in with exhaust clamps and its fawked up again. I don't know whats wrong. I cant drive my truck to Crozet tomorrow. Sorry, but I'm out.

Yeah dude! It was a great trip and I think both our Runners did great. Mine's fine. I have a vibration under hard acceleration at upper RPMs but we've decided it's the tweaked skids vibrating underneath. Other than that I have a few dents but still nothing major. I'm gonna run Shoe Creek Saturday and then take a break for awhile and pull my skids and bumper and straighten out and reinforce everything. I'm also gonna make some sliders then too. I'll post up pics of how they turn out and see if you want a set.

What damage did you sustain other than the drip rail? I'm still finding dents on mine :P

I've got a nice one where my bumper got drilled and bent some sheetmetal in the back and a small ding just above the rear fender where the ass end shifted into a small tree. Other than that it had a small but noticeable high speed "shimmy" on the way home but that seems to have decreased somewhat so I guess we will see.

Yeah, when I got stuck the second time on my rear axle I sat there and watched you all running all over the place down next to the house. I will have a beast rig like your Trekker someday (I have an 83 PU that is waiting for a build  ).

Not bad on the damage report Jason.. I think I got the same tree because I also found a little dent on the right rear corner above the taillight. I'm thinking about signing them with the date and place :P

Uhh, other Jason  .. I wish you could have made it out.. it was mucho fun. I'm gonna try to make the cleanup run in mid February up there. Maybe you'll have your truck sorted out by then.
