gas $$$ side topic

Gas is now too expensive for me to drive my truck on a daily basis.
Do any folks here ride motorcycles? I'm lookin to buy a dual-sport but not sure about brands. Would BMW, KTM, or one of the big 3 from japan be better from your experience.

I have looked into buying one also. I have done a little research and have ridden on a couple. Personally I like the Suzuki DRZ-400SM, It is essentially the same as their off-road only DRZ-400E with DOT tires and lighting. The Honda 650L was a little to big for what I wanted and Yamaha doesn't make one that has enoguh power. I think they tooped out at 225cc. I couldn't find a KTM dealer to test ride one. Now that I am going to Hawaii I don't think I will be getting one until I get back.

KTM makes a great bike fore on and off road, the jap bikes tend to be more off road orientened, and if you have the $$$ buy a BMW you wont regret it.

I have an '01 BMW R1150 GS and I can tell you it is amazing. I have even done some light offroad with it and it performed awsome. Also I get about 50 mpg engine is 1150cc, plenty of power and pretty comfortable. The longest I ridden it was 12 hours when I went from here in Virginia Beach to Charleston SC taking 17 all the way down. I have also ridden it to Michigan with no problems. I took two days on the MI trip stopping over in southern Ohio. I get a little cramped in my neck where it meets my shoulders after about 8 hours. I'd say go with the BMW.

Thanks for the input guys. I really like the BMW's but I am also fond of suzuki's from my old 175cc dirt bike. I am really contemplating this and just have to cruch some numbers to find out which will even out the cost.

BTW, I just saw an exxon station by my house that was $4.25 a gallon 8O :roll:

I've had my BMW up to 130 mph, and I had all the bags full of clothes.

The price of getting a motorcycle will buy alot of gas.

With what I spend per month on gas, over a three year period I would break even buying a motorcycle and use the savings in gas to pay for it. After that its all savings. Or atleast that's how my math worked out with a few hypotheticals included.
