I saw this on Pirate and thought I would put it here also. Take the minute to vote to protect our Freedom to Wheel where we want. I don't know if they would have the power to do anything but if we win the vote they have no leg to stand on.

And each day of a long summer weekend like Labor Day, as many as 2,200 motorized vehicles hit the beaches of Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina. "Not one of those is there legally," says Don Barger, southeastern regional director of the National Parks Conservation Association, a watchdog group.

I understand that Cape Hatteras is a large area to patrol for the Park Rangers there. But I know most people who head south stay in the designated areas. And I can see that the Hatteras locals blame tourists. But I think it's probably a 50/50 split on who actual run in the illegal areas including the dunes.

You know, that kind of shit pisses me off. I think in my life ive only wheeled where i wasnt supposed to once, and i was a lot younger and didnt know better.

Does anybody know if this shit is as rampant as they make it out to be?
Most people i know, and just about everyone ive talked to shys away from the illegal zones, its jus common sense.

I'm not familiar with the Cape section of the Outer Banks but I vacation for a week every year in Corolla, NC (most northern town on OBX). There are a lot of trucks on the beach (legally) and after talking to the Rangers they said their biggest problem was speeding on the beach, not people going onto the restricted areas (dunes).
