You already sound sick to me... You need to get out of there before you infect anyone. When you start your shift, start coughing a lot.. Tell them you ate some bad Mexican the night before :smt028
Len, last time I was there with these guys it was quite family friendly. It's a new member run, so no one will make fun of a stocker, well, not too much :)

Count me in. Where in George Washington do you guys normally camp? I'd rather head down on Friday night and set up. I have a good trail map of the forest, so if you know the forest road or meadow name that would be great. Let me know if you need bonfire wood, I can get about a dozen pallets in the truck as a start.
The Meadow off rt 33 or the meadow off Kephart?
TURNER
08-12-2005, 10:08 PM
the meadow is off 33, just stay on 33 until your past the trails and you'll start heading up the mountain, you'll make the only turn (its a left), you'll go down a gravel road for while, from there someone is gonna help me out, i havent been there in so long...
rccrawler
08-12-2005, 10:28 PM
once you start down the gravel road, it will twist and turn. eventually, say 10 minutes, you'll cross over a small bridge. to your immediately left will be a turn around/campsite. go there. in the turn around, you'll see a path on your right that will lead you to the meadow.

I'll be ready to hit the highway around 5:30 from Norfolk, PM me and we'll come up with a meeting place and time if you want to run up there together. Others from HR are welcome as well. PM me if you want to fun up there with us.
As for the Quads, I'd say this isn't the best trip for it. Wheeling your Taco is good enough. I wouldn't expect any others to bring their ATV's.
Talk to you soon,
Kyle
Quads are allowed, however the trailheads are a bit of a ride from camp, and you would have to keep loading and unload your quad.

it's not that bad of a drive especially if you have someone with you either in the truck or on the road. and finding that left turn on 33 isn't bad either. it's your first left once you starting climb up the mountain. if you see a sign saying welcome to WV, than you gone too far. LOL

Cell phones don't usually work too great out there, otherwise I would say to just call one of us when you get there.
The best bet would be to meet everyone at the campsite in the morning. (Drunkards will still probably be passed out, while the local bear or two comes strolling through the meadow). Directions are posted elsewhere in this thread, but as soon as I find my map book I'm gonna make a "sticky" thread with directions.

I believe there is a small State Park campground down the other side of the mountain on the West Virginia side with running water. I remember one year someone went there every morning to get a shower and use the throne. It would be alot closer than the KOA.
Maybe it is closed now, but it could be worth looking into.

Please keep me up on upcoming events that are in the "Valley" area. I live here, and would like to meet all of you.
Hopefully there will be another run soon, that I can come out to. (Only have a stocker though)
Hope to meet you soon..and someone post some pics for the rest of us to see.

Yeah the constant rain soured it a bit for me or I would have stayed longer. I need a Can-bak! To those that alerted me about my brake proportioning arm hanging down, sorry, I misunderstood you. Thought you meant it wasn't hooked to the axle, that's why I said I raised it up. Dumbass me didn't understand you guys were actually saying, "Hey Jackass, your shit's draggin'in the dirt!" I can just see you guys walking back to your truck thinking, I don't think that guy understood me. Funny as hell now that I think about it.
We pulled over once on the street due to the high pitch noise of steel dragging on asphalt and fixed it. So sorry and thanks again.
On my way out I did see Turner coming out through town.

Made it out there still after hearing it was called off early. Me, my wife, the dog, and a friend (he was driving a ****) rolled out of Ft. Belvoir round 8:00 pm sat. night, never been there and thought that after the gas station that the camp area was like 4-5 miles down the road :) and was doing u-turn after u-turn trying to find it. At 12:15 AM after half of a tank of gold priced gas spent, we giving up and drove down a path to the left just before the west va border. At the bottom we saw a sign that said no camping (CRAP) but we were tired and wet, we took a left at the fork and drove 1/4 of a mile got out and looked around to find that there was water to the right of us and a blocked off gate to the front. To the left was a trail going up we took it and about 100 yards up we pitched tent. In the morning we came back down the trail to see a great sight(didnt know that it was a river with mountans all around us, it was pitch black the night before was heavy fog) ANYWAY we decided to take the other path of the fork and drove over a bridge and to the left we seen a few trucks and decided to ask them if there was any better camping, low and behold we meet TTORA member Goldenliar and her and her friends took us out wheeling, THANKS Goldenliar. It was really the first time we did any off roading and had the best time in VA since we have been here. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering why you said it was intentional to have that thing dragging (I was the red double cab behind you.) I couldn't come up with a good reason to have your BPV adjustment arm kicking up rocks and dragging the dirt. So was a bit stumped when you said it was supposed to be like that. Glad you found and fixed it. Sorry you had to leave early due to kid issues.
Rhi's Navy friends were great and we had a good, dry, time Sat night before the rains came overnight. Sorry I left early this morning, I just wanted to disturb as few as possible. I'm so old I get up early and so I got bored and took off.
It was a lot of fun other than the weather and my overheating, which plagued me all the way home to Norfolk. Looks like I've got to spend some time this week figuring out what the heck is going on, though I just might play dumb and take it to the stealership for warranty work.
Mike, I’ve got your tarp and stock jack crap. If you don’t want the tarp back I’ll be happy to toss it. I’ll get whatever you want back to you the next run.
Hope everyone else had fun,
Kyle

Hey, we had a blast this weekend. All of my friends enjoyed their time out with us, even if Mike led us around in circles in the rain on Saturday. We forgive you Mike. Most of the night Saturday was alright, then it started raining again. Luckily we were being slowpokes and were actually still there when killjoy made it to the meadow. We did the road from the meadow up to Reddish Knob, and everyone had a fun time. Hopefully next run will be a little bit drier.
Rhiannon
Chuck the Tarp. Hold on to the stock jack stuff.
It was a fun time. Rain got old after a while, but eh, it happens.

During the spring I was down there with the nova ****ers  and one guy made it thru. It was an xj on 35's locked in the rear i believe. I did it sideways, and I dont think the mud's that bad, it was getting up those HUGE ruts that was the tough part, I realllly had to hammer it. But yeah every once in awhile Ill see a stock truck try to go thru there. lol, bad idea.
