I put a Trail gear clutch in my Tacoma back in September.

Under high load, the clutch slips. Today with the help of a Eric N, I dropped the transmission to check it out.

It looks like the clutch was running on something.

According to the FSM, the clutch was installed in the proper direction. Looking at the old cluch, it could only be installed in on direction. This clutch can be installed in both directions.

Pressure plate

I think it's a 2.7 clutch, not a V6 clutch.

Yes it is.

Yea, it was in the kit. Those little rivets er whatever they are on the clutch disk assembly were rubbing against the pressure plate, causing the pressure plate to not fully seat when the clutch pedal was released. I dont know if this kit is actually for a 2.7 3RZ where the springs on the clutch disk face the transmission side or what, but something isnt fitting right.

Those rivets were the cause of your slippage for sure. However, it doesn't matter if it was a 2.7 clutch or not. The problem lies between the pressure plate and disc. Your flywheel looked ok right? Which ever clutch that was in that box was mis-matched. I'd guess a 2.7 disc with a 3.4 pressure plate. At least you guys found the problem.

Can you call the guy you bought it from, he had it installed right? Did it work for him?

This clutch drama is just crazy .

Even though you bought it second hand I'd contact them and see if they can check any possible numbers on the disc and pp. You may get an exchange out of it to sell and help recoupe the AZ clutch. Ya never know, they may surprise you.
