Good evening, gentlemen:
When I first became a member, I told you I have a '92 4x4 pickup, with a bad 22RE engine. The screech when cranking, and the knock when running suggest the engine problem is not minor.
I am considering swapping in a '92 Chevrolet 4.3 V6 and I wonder if any of you have made this swap. Mechanical skill is not an issue here, but I would like to know what problems, complications, hints, advice, or constructive criticism any of you might have about this.
I live in northern Chesterfield County. I have been with my son to several Camp ****s, and on trail rides with RCTR, including GWNF and Rousch Creek.
Thanks for your help.

That's a popular swap, but I don't personally know anybody who's done it. Try searching the Toyota section (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12) of Pirate 4x4. I don't know if you're familiar with Pirate, but be sure to search for related threads over there before you start one that's already been covered a million times. I'm sure there's some good info there.

You'll need a good bit of $$$.
What tranny are you going to use, TH350, 700R4 ? You dont want to use the Toyota tranny.
You can get adapters from Advance Adapters.
You'll need a much bigger radiator.
You'll need to beef up the front suspension to handle the weight.
You may have oil pan clearance issues with your IFS.
A 2-3" body lift will make things easier.
You'll have to integrate the 4.3's wiring harness into the Toyotas'.
You'll need a good bit of $$$.

That's just a few basics.

Toyotanuts (Jeremy) on this board is currently working on a similar swap. He bought an 89 4.2/TH700R4 and adapter from me a couple months ago.
