Even though I haven't been actively looking for a new tow rig I think I found one and wanted to get some opinions and/or pro's and con's of it. Right now I'm looking at a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 24V CTD, an extended cab, regular bed, and 4x4. I know about the potential transmission problems... but it seems more like a power problem then the transmissions themselves. Because the Cummins is so easy to crank up the power on people can very easily over tune the engine for the transmission. From what I've seen so far a stock transmission should not have many problems as long as the engine in stock. I've also read about the KDP (killer Dowel Pin) problem and the fixes. I took a look today and the block is not stamped with the crack prone 53 block so that shouldn't be an issue either. The one thing I'm curious about is the miles on the truck... it has about 190K on the odometer. Is this a deal for $8K or should I be looking else where? The truck seems solid over all no slush in the oil and the coolant reservoir looks clean. Any "educated" opinions? I'm not looking for Dodge sucks go Ford/Chevy.
