I may be picking up a 96 4Runner SR5 for free of close to it due to my very cool father. It's suppose to be pretty clean, the only down side is it's a 2WD. That being said, what are my best options? I don't want to spend alot of money on this conversion, the wife is already adding the monthly insurance in her head.
Will the factory junk fit under the front? Are the control arms the same? If I go stock, will I just need the diff, axles, hubs, DS, Xfer case, and shifter?

I guess my other option would be to SAS it. This may be cheaper depending on the price of stock parts at my local yards. What axle are guys using, isn't the Xfer on the drivers side? Anyway I think you know where I'm going with this. Thanks for your help.

You need a trans and transfer case, front diff, CV's, and 4WD steering knuckles.

Yeah I tend to think SAS would be the best option especially if I want to make it more of a trail rig down the road. Right now I'd just want 4WD for the wife in bad weather. I'm keeping my Runner.
What axle are people using to SAS?

if you got the cash pick up an 80 series front. its like 3" wider than the rear you have now, throw some longs or birfs from polyperformance in there and you'll be blowin r&p's before you know it. if you search on pirate 4x4 you can find some info on runnin and passenger side diff on the taco/runner drivetrain. TBH that would a silly rig, i dont think ive ever seen a 3rd gen runner with at toy front, def would be a rarity.

Thanks for the quick replys but I'm going to pass. I was misinformed, it seems to have a 3.0 which means it's a 2nd Gen. I would of gone for a 3rd Gen. or maybe even a 2nd with a 22RE. Oh well. Thanks again.
