Im looking for a good shop to bring my truck to (88 toyota pickup) i need differential work done. Specifically i am wanting to re-gear the front and rear (from 4.10's to 4.88's) putting a lockrite locker in the rear and rebuilding the rear somewhat i.e. new pinion bearing, seal and other gaskets and seals in that area. not messing with the axle seals.
Looking for good shops somewhat in the area that wont rape my wallet. any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

my buddy has his own shop and does great work down in Richmond. He is the one who installed my rear ARB locker along w/ other mods. If you want PM me and I will send you his info.

I'd say your best bet would be to pull them yourself install the lockright (which is very easy and the directions you get with one are very easy to understand I did my own with no experience what so ever with a locker took only about half hour to install but be very sparing with the greese to hold the parts in place)and have a shop set them up should cost about $150 each then reinstall them yourself that way you get the experience of doing the work to replace them should you have to down the road some time and get the gearing taken care of at a very reasonable cost to your wallet. just my .02

breaker-that is kinda what i was wanting to do, something along those lines because i do want the experience and knowledge ive just been really busy lately and im probably going to be busy for the next month. and i really kinda need this to happen soon. kind of a long story but my pinion bearing is making god awful noises once i drive it for a while and im just trying not to mess it up even worse than it already is.. who knows i may man up and try it, im gonna see how much these shops are gonna be first.
thanks for the input guys

I'm not gonna name names ('cause they'll probably post here anyway and I don't want to volunteer them for something if they don't really want to do it) but there are a couple dudes on this board who would probably do it for little to no cost (as long as you helped them as needed).
I've done lockers before and they're pretty straight foward. I've never done gears though, so I can't really offer help there. If someone here offers up their gear installation know-how we could do it at my house. I'm about 30 min from Leesburg.

Sweet man! i appreciate that! yeah ive been hearing from several people that the lockers are fairly straight forward when it comes to installation, the gears are wuts been giving me the problems. Anyways, i appreciate that man, we'll see if anyone wants to help :D

Dont half ass it, replace the axle seals. You already have the axles out to pull the 3rd and they are cheap. Or let them go and leak, push all the grease out of the wheel bearings and gunk up your brakes so it cost 4 times the cost to fix.
I swear I never understood people tossing 500 bucks at a vehicle and trying to save 10 bucks by not replacing a seal:thump:
