I just had an idea this morning....Was thinking of getting together w/ the other off roading clubs in Virginia and surrounding areas and have a off road truck show. Get everybody from Jeeps, Toyotas, Nissans, Domestic, Imports, Mall crawlers...It doesn't matter...come up w/ a place like a park or a empty mall parking lot...just a place where all can get together meet new people and see some amazing trucks.

What do you guys think?? Good idea? Pass this info along to all your other clubs and see if we can get something together for sometime this summer

Sounds like a fun idea to me. Too bad my trial rig is broke. LOL.

Yeah Chris, but mall crawlers are welcome, too.

I'd be down. I would assume that if it was in a parking lot somewhere we'd need to run it by whatever store/management company owns the lot, otherwise we'd just be a bunch of rednecks loitering in a parking lot.

A park might be a good idea. Someplace that has grills, or where portable grills can be used, would be cool.

I think it's a good idea but here I'll save ya some time. Just pass this pic of the winner around and save everyone some gas.

Although, if I get the new springs on the Excursion in time, I'll have two trucks to enter :Pimp1:.

yea that is what I was thinking...some where at a park..we can do some grillin and walk around and look at everybody's truck. it would be cool to do this every year.

now just to figure where (what park or parking lot) and who is going to "be in charge" of all this? and who do we talk to about getting permission.

I vote for a park, something a little more kid friendly, not to mention they're usually already set up for BBQs. Grass is nice for the show and just to sit on but I doubt we'd be allowed to park up on the grass.

I know a perfect place for it: Great Meadow Park (http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=38.828241,-77.809682&spn=0.014877,0.043387&z=15). Contact information here: Great Meadow Foundation (http://greatmeadow.org/). Don't worry about the high-brow polo club stuff. They do all kinds of stuff there.

I guess I could being the my 85 mall runner turning expedition vehicle. I got hi steer for Christmas and FJ60 brakes. Now I just need to find time to install them.

I think a park would be a great idea.

Right up the road from me, so that would be cool, but fees are pretty high:
http://greatmeadow.org/VenueRentals/GreatMeadowGrounds/tabid/74/Default.aspx

Another possibility: http://www.nvrpa.org/parks/bullrun/?pg=feesshelter.html

But, this might not work out well for a "car show" type event because...

13. Vehicles and trailers must park in designated paved and gravel parking areas only, and are prohibited on the grass.

14. Parking is on a first come first served basis.

15. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority does not guarantee parking, admission, or use of other park facilities with the rental of a park shelter. Some parks do offer facilities passes and other applicable discounts to groups that reserve shelters, please contact the park office directly for more information.

I'd target one during May, and one in late summer/early fall if the first one is a success. It's so hard to get people to show up for stuff.

Jason I emailed the people over @ Bull Run park...so we shall see what they have to say.

I was thinking of having one around May or early June then another in Aug or Sept.

So once I find a place to hold this event and a date...then you guys can post this on every off road forum you belong to and see if we can get a bunch of people to show up to show of their rigs.

well I got an email back from one of the shopping centers here in Manassas. They wants us to be an organization and also have insurance to cover anybody getting hurt. So I guess that is out.

My next option is either Bull Run par or any park ...just would need to reserve a spot. We could grill out and just hang out. Does anybody know of some parks around NOVA we could use??

Another option is to contact the people who run the car show over at Chic-fl-a up near the Dulles Mall and see if we can have our own section of off road/lifted trucks.

I know TTORA had to get event insurance to use a parking lot for staging for TO. It was not all that expensive.

well I have hit a dead end on this. Was trying to have it a a few places and still have not heard back from anybody. I would love to get everybody together on Fri night or Sat once the weather gets nice.

Maybe we could get together at the car show on Fri night near the Dulles Mall? Just make our own off road section. What do you guys think?

They're not going to tell you to leave because you're in 4x4s. If they do, they're not true enthusiast. As long as nobody does anything stupid like driving over medians or tears up any grass (property), we'll be welcome.

Beater and I brought our trucks to the show next to Chix Whatever plaza that is,and zero dirty looks were thrown our way, well until Jason closed his driver door . They'll be fine.
It's too bad Charles Town is so far from most of you because that's a good turnout carwise and our trucks only drew more interest.

BlueX
02-13-2010, 09:07 AM
yea if we get a couple of us to go over there we would draw lot more attention...just because we are different. I say we start there...not every Fri night but at least once a month or so??

I will bring this up as soon as the weather starts getting nice and see who is interested hanging out. As long as we don't do anything stupid we should not have a problem.

Give me some time, I can think of some places to have the mega meet. Also bringing the truck below will draw attention anywhere. Even bringing it to a car show.
