this is the start of my build. 4 guys, and me. first thing we had to do was grind off all the old body filler and what we found under it was well surprising, to say the least. second thing was to patch it. then the welder died so we starting grinding the other side, found more rust to cut out. did that then finally got the welder fixed so started finishing the patch job on the passenger side. marked out all the dents wed fill up and two cases of beer later we finished the weekend out with this work.

check out the pictures of the progress:

alrighty so its been about a week or more. and weve finally got the 4runner just about done. its taken alot of time but il tell you what. its fun.
we started into it thinking oh its in really nice shape, too bad i was totaly wrong. the rear corner pannels were basically shot out. so the old hood was used for patches. and then bondo. i hate bondo. end of story
we finally got it primed and were hoping to have it completly finished by thursday this week. i dont have updated pictures of the whole body primed and stuff but i keep forgetting my camera. once its all put back together tho wel have some pics

heres what ive got so far:

well kinda. we still have to put brakes on but in two weeks from tuesday i get it inspected and then i'l be able to drive that beast!

im also gonna end up putting a 3in body lift on, put some 31 mudders underneath it with some fancy shoes, and the brush gaurd ive got for it.

Looking good, but skip the 3" body lift. You don't need it to make 31's fit. Just slap them on, at most you may be have to pound the pinch weld back on the firewall. You can fit 33's with a bit of pounding. The lower the better for wheeling.

x eleventy billion. Skip the lift, go with 31" to 33" tires, and you're good to go. These things came with 31"s from the factory. I used to run 32x10.50 Super Swamper Radials on my '88 when it was stock and they fit perfectly.

well the 4runner has been on the road for 3 weeks now, and it runs well like an 89 probably would after sitting for 6 years. but we have replaced the distrubitor cap, the fuel filter, all the plugs and wires, done a serious needed oil change and put 31 inch wildcat mud tires on it. IT IS A FREAKIN BEAST

right now were trying to figure out a way to give it just a little more power cuz it just lugs around but it is the sweetest thing ever. i have already had like 4 offers to buy it and thats never happend to me haha. for some reason it still is running rich, and it looks like a tuned up diesel truck smoking like a train.

last weekend tho we took it mudding on some back roads, sunk it to the bumpers, put it in low range 3rd gear and it crawled right up it. i got a good laugh outta it tho because the chevy 2500 hd didnt quite make it through it had to sit behind and wait haha i love my toyota!

anyone have suggestions to the fuel running so rich PLEASE let me know
andd i wanna thank keith for the pretty tailgate on it! and il eventually put up pictures with the new tires OH i forgot about the brush gaurd i got for it too. my camera decided to take a hike and hide from me, so as soon as i find it il post pictures.

Unplug the cold start injector and see if that helps with the runs rich issue. IT seems to be becoming a issue on them. Also check and make sure the AFM door closes all the way. If it hangs up the PCM will give more fuel cause it thinks your trying to accel. This is also a pretty common issue.

check the timing on it once you throw a new distributor on it, thats all i got.
