Hey i'm the only one to vote, yay!
100% yes
Its saved my ass once, i've got a lot of GWNF recorded in the memory, i got kinda lost, and the sun went down and i managed to just follow my tracks out. I know wheelin' alone was a bad enough idea, but i wasn't really getting in to anything rough.

You can really get lost back in the GWNF. There are a lot of roads on the other side of the park. We need to head in there sometime.

Yeah i probably would have found my way out, but i don't have any accessory lights, so with just my headlights it was pretty hard to tell where i was.
I'm itching to get out again, its been awhile since i was out with ttora, i like going out with you guys where i have one of the least built trucks. Last time i was out i ended up helping two hicks off second mountain, bent my bumper doing it too, good thing i had recovery tools they barely had a tow strap between them, but they were driving toyotas so i had to help.

Lets see if we can set up a date.

Magellan Meridian Gold Handheld with Topo map loaded. With the Topo loaded, it shows all but the most obscure trails at GWNF and even some that aren't!

I have a Cobra GPS and I hate it, it came with a crappy Rand McNally prog to upload the maps and its just a pain to set up. Once set up though it works ok. I have been sorta looking for something better. Any reccomendations? I will also use it on my motorcycle so I'd like it to be waterproof.
Not yet, but looking for recommendations. I'd like a large screen to use in a vehicle, but still be able to use when hiking or rockclimbing.
Leaning towards the Quest 2.

I use a Garmin Rino for everything, i bought it while i was deployed and really love it, its screen isn't huge, but its accurite, and the newer one has a color screen.
Also its got a 2 way radio built in, so i keep an extra radio in my truck so i can talk to another truck (if they don't have a CB) or i can just grab it from the truck if two of us need to walk off some where.

I had several Garmin units (eTrex Legend(s) and GPS V) before I got my Magellan. The Garmin units I had worked very well and were easy to use and nice and small for handheld use. Though I found them to NOT be durable as I broke two.
I did a lot of research before I got my current Magellan. I picked this one for screen size and detail, durability, and low cost of accessories. The buttons are larger, and easier to use in a moving vehicle, which is it's main purpose for me. It's larger than the Garmin eTrex series, and about the cost of a color-screen eTrex Legend, but has a bigger screen, and seems to keep a signal better in the moutains.
With any unit you get, the key is the right maps to load into it. If you're looking for something to guide you to a destination, the Garmin seems to be better. With the map software, it will tell you what street you're on and at what cross-street, and even what cross-streets are coming up and how far away. The Magellan tells you what street you're on, but not the cross-street info.
The problem is, the Topo map software for either Garmin or Magellan is about $250. The Topo's what you need, really. It may not be able to get you to a party in the suburbs, but it will tell you what trail you're on in the middle of nowhere.
My personal preference for a 4x4 based, handheld unit, would be what I have now, Magellan Meridian (Gold, Plat, or Color) with the Magellan Topo software.

I like the location reporter feature that the Rhino models have. You can use it to find the GPS position of another Rhino user on the trail. Very cool.
e-trex legend in my 4runner, was also in my buggy, truggy and old black 4runner.
I wish the screen was larger and it would be cool to have a color screen but it has worked well for the past 3 or so years.

PM me, I've got the software here... Somewhere....
I switched to Magellan so I don't need it anymore. That is, if I can find it. I'll start the search.
