Hey guys,
Where is the best place and who is the best manufacturer of the manual hub conversions for the Taco and 4Runner? How much do they run?
Thanks,
Ace

Ace,
The best/cheapest way to do this is to swap the hubs, spindle. knuckle and CV off of manual hub truck with yours. However they are getting harder to find in Junk yards with low miles. Also, if you have ABS you will need to find a manual hub ABS taco to swap the parts off of if you want to keep the ABS. If you get non ABS ones I do not know how the ABS system will react and affect the computer. To my knowledge only 1999 extra cab trucks had the option of ABS and manual hubs.
Good Luck

Here is the kit

If it is for the 4Runner going to the junk yard would be your best bet. If you are going to put it on the tacoma you need the kit and it is a pain in the ass to press the bearings

All-Pro used to have a kit with everything you need for the conversion. I just checked their site and couldn't find it. Might be worth a call though.

Well, I couldn't find any low mileage 99 taco's with ABS and manual hubs so I decided to go with the Off Road Solutions setup and their high angle boots. Of course, the tacoma kits are on backorder for 3 weeks so I won't be seeing that kit til mid March. Go figure.
It's a waste of money. Just carry a few spare axles.
Just get an Autozone CV with a lifetime warranty. CVs are pretty cake to change out. I think Gadget has it down to 20mins.

Since the Taco is my daily driver I'm gonna suck it up and get the conversion kit for it (the angles are pretty steep with the 2" spacer on top of the fabtech).
Now for the 4runner...I'm just gonna get a couple spare axles and carry them with me. Gears and bumpers are all I'm gonna dump into the 4runner. After that I'm done. I'm not spending any more cabbage on my trucks unless it's for repairs.

It is going to be a pain to install the manual hubs or find a place that will do it. Who are you going to get to install it?

Lance told me how much of a pain in the ass Alan's conversion was. He said he would do mine but he didn't look like he was too happy about it. lol
