thinking about going to 285's on the Taco. 3" lift, how much rubbing should I expect? currently running 265's

The tire is gaining an inch on each tread side or an inch on the top and an inch on the bottom. Turn your front wheels so the rear inside edge of the tread is closest to the inner fender or pinch weld then turn them so the front edge is closest to the bumper or valance and measure the gaps. This will give you a good idea just remember to factor in suspension compression as well.

I know all that, I'm looking for a real world answer, someone who is running them now..

Pretty sure Brad runs them on his Taco with 2inch suspension and 1 inch BL and stock wheels. He dont really wheel it though so not sure if it rubs offroad.

thanks, mine goes off road during hunting season and playing one in a while, nothing extream..

What wheels are you running? It all depends on the backspacing. If you're on the factory wheels you'll be fine, but they might make slight contact on the upper arm. .25" spacer or grinding down face of arm will remedy that
