I am not sure if this belongs in the tech section or not, but I am saving for my next mod and I was hoping some more experienced people could save me the trouble of deciding which would come in more handy on a trail. I don't have a locker, so I was looking at the ARB air locker, or regearing and putting 33's on. So I guess that question would be more clearance or locking capability?
Thanks a lot,
Brian

You're slightly lifted. If you do an ARB or detriot locker, you'll need to pull the carrier so you might as well as regear at the same time to save on labor.
I have two suggestions.
1) If you have 15" wheels, 33" tires on 8" wide wheels. add a BL if you need the clearance. when you are ready to regear, go with a Lock right instead of a detroit or ARB. cheaper and doesn't drive bad on the road.
2) If you 16" wheels, 285/75R16 on stock wheels. add a BL if you need the clearance. regear with a lock right.
Either way, regearing will be the most expensive since you're looking at 300-500 / diff on labor.

Thanks for your reply. After reading what you said, and researching a little more, I think the smart thing for me to do right now is get the lock right in the rear, save my money and re-gear/bigger tires when I get out and wheel this thing enough to make it worth the investment. From reading some other posts the lock right seems like a solid deal. Another question I had was how the locker would act in the winter. The truck is still my daily driver and will most likely see some snow and ice this year. Am I going to have to worry about loosing control more with the lockright, or is that only if I drive like an idiot?
Thanks a lot
Brian

in snow it awesome, unless it real deep stuff i dont even use 4WD anymore, if its icy AT ALL, you'll have a hard time keepin the rearend behind you where it bolongs, but like you said this problem can be solved by not driving like an asshat

on ice, it just takes patience. slow 2nd gear starts, off the throttle in turns, and as little wheel spinning as possible. having it 4wd helps too so that the front end pulls too.
trust me, i would rather be locked in a PU/SUV than my ****. the whole short wheelbase shit sucks. and now being locked in the front, ice is going to be fun.
