I was trying to swap the wheel cylinders off the old rear axle out of my g/fs 84 4run, and put them on the housing that were putting in. I was wondering if anyone else has replaced thier wheel cylinders. Do you have to press the axle shaft out of the backing plate just to get these out? I gave up when I got to this point b/c I figured it would be to much of a hastle to put them in the new housing. Anybody know?
Its two bolts, and the break line.

Its two bolts, and the BRAKE line.
Yep. You just pull the drum, take out those two bolts that hold the cylinder to the backing plate, and detach the brake line.

I just re-read your post. Are you swapping in a wider '86-'95 axle? If so, I think they have bigger drums, so they might have different sized cylinders.

Nah, Im swapping the brakes from one 84 housing to another 84 housing, and I wanted to swap the wheel cylinders too. I took the brake line off, and the two bolts, but couldnt get the wheel cylinder out from behind the flange where the wheel bolts too. I wanted to know if I had to press the axle shaft out of the backing plate just to get the wheel cylinder out, or if I was just being retarded and couldnt get it out.

It's probably rusted/mudded in place. Try tapping it (not too hard) with a hammer.
