Default The "other" redneck in Arlington

I PMed BeaterToyota on YotaTech looking for some trails near DC. He turned me on to this site.

I'm the guy who got that '97 T100 (beat to shit, ~250,000 miles, 4x4, 5-speed, supercharged, raised) on Craigslist in Frederick, MD. I'm guessing a few of you looked at it and knew better.

I'm born and raised in the DC area. Never been wheeling. My main hobby is radio controlled helicopters. I needed a beater truck for various reasons and it HAD-TO-BE Toyota. This T100 might be up to some off roading so I thought my 13 year old boy might enjoy getting out in the woods...he is cised.

My lovely wife of 25 years drives a Lexus and my daily driver is a 2005 Prius. No, I'm not a tree hugger. I hate sending petrodollars to our enemies.

Looking forward to meeting you on the trails.

John in Arlington, VA

Welcome John, I work in Arlington.

We'll be having a mild run in October that you're more than welcome to join us on. It's great for kids and first time wheelers. Keep your eye on the 'Get Togethers' section.

Default Hell of a commute

That is quite a commute.

I'd like to meet up on October. I've got some stuff to do to get the truck ready. Parts are ordered to get it through safety inspection.

Emmision is a bigger problem. The previous owner tack welded a new muffler in to drive it down from frederick. I will have to beg, borrow, steal or rent a welder to fix the leaks. Or, I'll let Meineke do it.

I'm in IT on a government contract in DC. What are you doing Arlington?

You are not perchance doing forensics for USPS OIG are you? I know they are in Rosslyn. I did some short term contract work there about 7 years ago.

Welcome John.

Several of us have welders so we can get your exhaust figured out. You're welcome to come to my place and use mine if you need.

If you're really worried about getting through safety inspection I know a really lenient place. It'd be a bit of a drive for you (Sterling, VA) but I get my pile inspected there every year.

You're on your own with emissions inspection though; Fauquier County doesn't require them so I haven't had to do one in years.

Default My son would like the car show

I've been tracking the car show at Chick-fl-A thread. I'd like to come out and, I know my son would, but the truck will not be ready by tomorrow night. It is tagged, insured and I have the county stiker but it does not have a safety sticker.

However, if I can I'll take it for inspection tomorrow after work. It will reject but I can drive it for 15 days with a rejected sticker. Also, I will find out what else they want fixed.

I used to have a nice inspector who I'd been going to for 20+ years. Alas, they tore down the service station to build a bank (we need another bank, not!). I don't know where he went.

Of course I could always come out in the Prius. My son would be hiding under the dash. He thinks the truck is sweet but the Prius is anti-cool. Of course, I told he the green-girls will love the Prius.
